Moving to Ocean
Bordering the Atlantic Ocean, Ocean County is the southernmost county in the New York metropolitan region. Not only is Ocean County the state’s largest county, it is also the fastest growing due to its close proximity to both NYC and Philadelphia. And since it’s only 25 miles away from Atlantic City and the Jersey Shore, it is a popular tourist destination.
There’s a lot to do in Ocean County, but during the summer the various beaches along the Jersey Shore are a popular spot for tourists and residents alike. Some of the most popular beaches include Point Pleasant Beach and Island Beach State Park. Or go to Seaside Heights and take the Sky-Ride for some amazing views. If you’re not a beach person, head over to the New Jersey Pine Barrens, the largest remaining example of the Atlantic coastal pine barrens system. You can explore the 1.1 million acre reserve thanks to the various wooded trails.
If you’re looking for some fun activities to do with the family there are plenty of options. The Jenkinson’s Aquarium is always a big hit with the kids or you could take part in the Pirate Adventure Jersey Shore where the kids can dress up like pirates. For those who like anything ship related, visit the New Jersey Maritime Museum. There’s also Insectropolis where you and kids can hold and study bugs.
Lots of tourism also means lots of shops and restaurants. There are a ton of great seafood restaurants to choose from in the area and plenty of small shops along the boardwalk. If you want some craft brews with your food, go to ManaFirkin Brewery for some good beer and bites. Otherwise, check out Laurita Winery for a tour and stomp some grapes to make your own wine!
